Para quem gosta de experimentar e sentir as formas mais livres na música, correr o risco e ousadia na improvisação pura e o cruzamento de linguagens, a 21.ª edição do Festival de Jazz de Portalegre está aí e acontece já nos próximos dias 2 a 4 de julho.  O cartaz deste ano desenha um diálogo fascinante entre a história viva do jazz nacional e espreita dois  belíssimos ângulos das vanguardas internacionais mais disruptivas. Num festival de três dias, apontam-se quatro eixos que importa acompanhar:  1. Encontro Nova-Iorquino: Sara Serpa & Matt Mitchell (2 de Julho) O festival arranca a quebrar barreiras. Sara Serpa , uma das vozes mais singulares da cena de Nova Iorque (e orgulhosamente portuguesa), apresenta-se com o pianista e compositor norte-americano Matt Mitchell .  O duo explora uma simbiose única onde a voz de Sara Serpa é tratada como um instrumento abstrato e o piano de Mitchell desconstrói o ritmo e a harmonia em tempo real. Duo improvável, projeto musical transcontinental que une a produtora e multi-instrumentista turca Gözen Atila (Anadol) à artista e poeta francesa Marie Klock , edita agora Manivelles , o segundo álbum pela label de Hamburgo Pingipung .  Anadol e Marie Klock começaram a trabalhar em conjunto após um encontro ocasional num festival em Inglaterra. Praticam uma fusão artística única onde a electrónica abstracta e o pop psicadélico misturam influências da Anatólia com a tradição da chanson francesa, de forma subvertida e anárquica. Entre sonoridades avant-pop , indietrónica e  synth-pop experimental, estabelecem bases para performances imprevisíveis e teatrais. As colagens sonoras de  Anadol, malhas complexas com sintetizadores analógicos e texturas radiofónicas, servem de terreno fértil ao sponken word de Marie Klock, com poemas a jogar entre o absurdo e um humor mordaz, criando um universo musical estimulante. “Video 5 8 6” is a song originally composed as “pap” (as Tony Wilson put it) for the opening night of the Haçienda on May 21, 1982. Parts of this pearl would become the basis for the Power, Corruption & Lies tracks “5 8 6” and “Ultraviolence”, as well as the associated 12-inch single “Blue Monday”.

Mayday Mayday, the latest from The Clockworks, a four-piece Irish post-punk band from Galway, Ireland, now based in London. Formed in 2019, the band consists of James McGregor (vocals and guitar), Sean Connelly (guitar), Damian Greaney (drums), and Tom Freeman (bass).  One of the most exciting new bands in the post-punk scene, a blend of indie rock and garage rock, with driving guitars and catchy melodies, currently working on their debut album. The Clockworks are a young band with a lot of potential, helping to bring Irish rock back to the forefront. Stay tuned!

In the beginning there was the rhythm… This is the story of a group of black musicians that came together in South London in the racially turbulent UK of the early 1970s. Using rhythm as a source power message for peace and a dove as their logo, Cymande played Caribbean grooves tuned with jazz, funk and soul. Today, Cymande songs are raw material and inspiration for new generations of artists. Their music was essential for a wide range of projects from Soul II Soul to De La Soul or MC Solaar to The Fugees. And their message has never been so fundamental. Directed by Tim MacKenzie-Smith, the movie "Getting It Back: The Story Of Cymande" is their story.
