Playing the dance. Erkki Kurenniemi's video camera organ

Erkki Kurenniemi is a key name in the history of electronic music. He founded the electronic music studio for the Department of Musicology at the University of Helsinki in the early 1960s. Kurenniemi built several electronic instruments and one of his most ambitious project was the video synthesizer DIMI-O (1970-1971) that converts movements recorded by a video camera into instaneous music compositions.

According to Wikipedia, "Kurenniemi created the first commercially manufactured and marketed microcomputer in 1973,two years before the American MITS Altair 8800".

Preto no Branco, 20090221

Sonic Youth will have a new studio album next June. We take this as a catalyzer to get immersed into a flood of electric guitar drones. Or to feel happy again with some acoustic tones. Even if they have to be complemented by some electronics. From Vienna, we have recently discovered an amazing low frequency orchestra. And noticed that people from Raster-Noton will be in Lisbon for the OFFF festival. That will be in May. For the next weekend John Zorn will perform in Porto and Portalegre. Raw material for a double-hour of pure radio.

Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda was born 100 years ago.  She was a portuguese-born brazilian samba singer, precursor of Brazil's tropicalismo. Also a Broadway star, Carmen Miranda was by some accounts the highest-earning woman in the USA.

The next piece is one of the most beautiful songs written by John Cale, published in 1989 on his masterpiece Words for the Dying.
