Erkki Kurenniemi is a key name in the history of electronic music. He founded the electronic music studio for the Department of Musicology at the University of Helsinki in the early 1960s. Kurenniemi built several electronic instruments and one of his most ambitious project was the video synthesizer DIMI-O (1970-1971) that converts movements recorded by a video camera into instaneous music compositions. According to Wikipedia , "Kurenniemi created the first commercially manufactured and marketed microcomputer in 1973,two years before the American MITS Altair 8800".

A Fundação Gulbenkian vai ter um vídeo clube gratuito a partir de amanhã! O projecto é interessantíssimo: como nos vídeo clubes tradicionais, qualquer pessoa pode escolher e levar para sua casa vídeos, com a vantagem de serem gratuitos. Mas o que torna este vídeo clube verdadeiramente especial é a natureza dos títulos disponibilizados. O projecto reúne um extenso arquivo de video art e film art , que tem percorrido diferentes cidades em todo o mundo e que vai crescendo em cada itenerância com os comissários locais em cada cidade a serem convidados a escolher trabalhos de artistas do seu país para ampliar o arquivo. Lisboa tem a grande vantagem de ser das últimas cidades a receber o projecto, beneficiando agora de um maior número de títulos, resultante da passagem do evento em cidades tão diferentes como New York, Amsterdam , Berlin , Frankfurt, Seoul , Paris, Istanbul , Austin , Budapest , Boston, Antwerp , Miami e Lyon .
