Today is a big day. John Cage was born 100 years ago, September 5th, 1912.
"He may have surpassed Stravinsky as the most widely cited, the most famous and/or notorious, of twentieth-century composers." (Alex Ross)
Indeed. But the world is not yet paying attention to many of Cage’s advices:
"If something is boring after two minutes, try it for four. If still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is not boring at all."
Happy Birthday, Mr. John Cage! We will keep on searching for silence and playing with noise.
